Speak Up for the Roadless Rule
Hi there folks, I just got back in from a few weeks of guiding archery elk hunts and they had their fair share of ups and downs as archery elk hunting always does. We had a lot of opportunities, I believe our hunters learned a lot and as always, I’m very proud of our team at Dark Timber who are still plugging away for the third straight week up in the high country chasing bugles.
The main reason for this email blast is to ask all of you to take two minutes today or tomorrow and send a comment to ask President Trump and our Congress to shelve their proposal to rescind the Roadless Rule. This administration’s undying efforts to strip away our public lands and waters is absolutely exhausting but we can’t dwell on that. We have to push back.

The Roadless Rule is an overwhelmingly public-supported bipartisan rule that was carefully constructed to keep our remaining unfragmented habitat intact and keep our existing watersheds clean and functioning. There’s literally no logical reason for this rule to be rolled back other than for the same old story of a few robber barons to make a quick buck while the rest of us get screwed over for the long haul.
The rule keeps existing roads in place. It allows for wildfire management to take place and build roads is fire is a threat. It allows for timber harvest to continue on the labyrinth of roads already in place. It’s a well-thought-out rule that still manages to add some semblance of habitat conservation and connectivity to a landscape that a few greedy mongrels would just as soon plunder and hand us the bill for cleanup while running small business owners (like outfitters for example) out of business.
This is our job now folks. If we want to keep our public lands in public hands so that our kids and grandkids have similar opportunities to use them and enjoy them like we’ve been able to do, then we must speak up and speak out. Every time. Every single time.
The comment period for the roadless rule was given a very short 21-day comment period, yet another strategy to push the public out of the process. So, you have until this Friday, September 19th, to submit a comment. Send it now, it doesn’t take long, I typed mine out in a couple minutes. Over 150,000 people have spoken out against this, but you need to make that number grow. I hope each of you who read this will send your comments in and tell the current administration you do not support repealing the Roadless Rule. Thank you and good hunting to you this fall.
