Another archery elk season has quickly come and gone. Like many of you, September is one of our favorite months of the year! We had a fun archery season here at Dark Timber Lodge in western Colorado. Our hunters and guides worked hard for some memorable opportunities at elk.

One of the best parts of our job as hunting guides is having the opportunity to share in these adventures with our clients. And sometimes, the best testimonials come from the hunters who didn’t get to harvest an elk.

We’d like to share the comments from two hunters who joined us this bow season in Colorado. They didn’t get to take home an elk this year. But their comments really capture what the experience should be all about:

“I wanted to send you a quick note and say that this past week was nothing short of epic! Although unsuccessful, I left your lodge with a huge appreciation for the elk as well as our public lands. I have always known that our public lands are amazing and important. However, until you truly get out there and appreciate their beauty and vastness, one would never know. Your team was nothing short of exceptional, they took the time to educate and help us understand how and what to do while in the woods. It was truly evident that you all love what you do.

A few lessons I learned:

1. When you think you are in shape for elk hunting you are actually not. Keep grinding to get in better shape.

2. Elk are a truly beautiful animal.

3. Never give up.

4. Drink plenty of water and then drink more!

5. No matter how hard you prepare and how hard you try you still may not be successful.

Again, thank you for a positively impactful experience. I cannot wait to get back out there with you all to chase elk again.”

-Carl, from Ohio

“I’ve been hunting deer in Texas for 35 years. The last 20 years have been with a bow. No matter how committed I’ve been to avoiding feeders and man-made blinds, it’s been difficult to find a truly wild experience. That’s what I was looking for and that’s what I got with Dark Timber Lodge. If you’re looking for a comfortable hunt that is guaranteed then go somewhere else. Adam is as tough and driven as the wilderness and animals he hunts. In difficult weather he called in a bull for a great shot. My arrow hit just off the mark and the elk ran. Adam was as committed as I was to finding him, even though we didn’t. We spent two days in inclement conditions meticulously tracking. I don’t know another guide that would be as invested physically and emotionally as him. He’s as authentic a conservationist and woodsman as you’ll get to work with and learn from. I highly recommend the experience.”

-Jordan, from Texas

Thank you so much to Carl, Jordan and everyone who hunted with us this archery season! It was truly a pleasure hunting with each one of you. It means a great deal to be able to share our love for these wild places, the wildlife and our public lands. Thank you and we hope to see you again!
